Saalio® Device Concept

Saalio® is a modern therapeutic device for tap water iontophoresis in a professional setting of hospitals and medical practices as well as in home therapy. As a result of long-term experience, the Saalio® device guarantees a maximum of safety and convenience of use.

Many sophisticated details and safeguards as well as ease of operation facilitate safe use of electricity and significantly contribute to the therapeutic success:

Safety first – Safe Use of Electricity

Any contact with metallic conductors and thus danger of possible skin burns when operating the Saalio device is ruled out altogether. The use of silicone/graphite electrodes as well as insulated socket and connector systems provides protection for the user.

Once skin contact is recognized, the intelligent control software automatically initiates the treatment session. The current is slowly increased to the pre-set value. Before the treatment winds down, it is again gradually reduced. The device recognizes potential voltage peaks (the so-called electric fence effect) early on and intercepts this hazard. The visual display not only shows the pre-set target value but also the actual flow of the electric charge.

Direct and Pulsed Current in one Device

The integration of direct and pulsed current into one device opens up all possibilities to the user for conducting treatment according to his/her individual requirements. For the treatment of serious hyperhidrosis or to achieve rapid therapeutic success, direct current is the preferred option.

For sensitive body regions or generally sensitive users, pulsed current is an alternate option. Frequently, the pulsed current is the preferred choice for the subsequent maintenance phase. Thanks to the integration of both modes of operation into the system, the user can optimize individual settings in the course of his/her therapy without having to decide beforehand upon the preferred equipment type.

Silicone / Graphite Electrodes in Place of Metal Electrodes

In contrast to the frequently used metal electrodes, the Saalio® device features special silicone/graphite electrodes. In the course of a galvanic bath, metal electrodes tend to undergo electrolytic dissolution processes of metal ions into the water. This, in turn, may cause metal electrodes to tarnish or to undergo a color change.

Graphite (carbon), on the other hand, is considered to be an electrolytically inert material. The silicone/graphite electrodes have been designed specifically for the Saalio device; they are highly conductive, abrasion resistant, and durable. They are not wear parts and thus are covered by the same warranty as the entire unit.

Innovative Textile Electrodes

The Saalio® textile electrodes are suitable to also treat other body regions like face, forehead, neck or torso by means of tap water Iontophoresis. In contrast to plate electrodes, the textile electrodes are anatomically pre-shaped and can adjust very well to the body contour when wet

Each Saalio® textile electrode consists of 3 layers of natural-colored fleece (cotton and cellulose), free of coloring agents or preservatives. Special patterns let the flat fleece layers assume shapes that are suitable for different anatomic regions. Soft graphite fibers have been incorporated into the middle layer. They ensure uniform current input of the wet textile electrode into the skin. The innovative Saalio® Textile electrodes are globally unrivaled.

Simple Installation / Intuitive Operation

The installation of the Saalio device is quite simple. The settings on the device are self-explanatory and the operation before and during the application is intutive.

The Saalio® treatment device is used to treat hyperhidrosis, means excessive sweating on particular body sites such as:

    • Axillary Hyperhidrosis (underarms)
    • Palmar Hyperhidrosis (palms of the hand)
    • Plantar Hyperhidrosis (soles of the feet)
    • Facial Hyperhidrosis (face)

Under no circumstances should Iontophoresis be performed if any of the following applies:

    • User/s with a pacemaker
    • User/s with an implanted cardioverter defibrillator (ICD)
    • Pregnancy
    • Metal-containing intrauterine pessary (only relevant in case of feet treatment)
    • Metallic implants or other conductive objects present in the current path between the two electrodes
    • Pathologically altered skin or large skin defects (wounds) that cannot be covered with petroleum jelly
    • User/s with palpitations (cardiac arrhythmia)
    • User/s with neurological diseases (e.g. epilepsy or limited sensitivity)
    • User/s with malignant disorders in the area of application
    • User/s with severe local inflammation or thrombosis (blood clots)
    • User/s with severe vascular disorders
